Neighborhood Watch Program

YOU are the key to success in our Neighborhood Watch program! When we watch out for each other, we are all more secure. Nationally, there's only one law enforcement officer for every 4,500 individuals. When we OBSERVE, RECOGNIZE, and REPORT suspicious activity in our community, we greatly increase the probability that we will maintain a crime-free community.

Preventing Crimes of Opportunity
Burglary of a motor vehicle is a crime of opportunity, and one that has been attempted even in our community! The majority of vehicles burglarized are not locked and have items in clear view to the burglar. Vandalism/criminal mischief, the willful destruction or defacing of property, is of concern in our community. Burglary of habitation, including burglary of a home or attached garage, in the majority of cases occurs when the garage door or home doors are not locked, perhaps even open. Here are several suggestions to maintain your security:

  • - LOCK YOUR DOORS! Do not leave your garage door open when you are elsewhere in the yard or in the house. It's an invitation to first see and then walk away with your belongings, or perhaps even to gain access to the home's interior.
  • - Identify your valuables by engraving them with your own identification information.
  • - Schedule a free home inspection. To help you implement crime prevention through appropriate environmental design, a law enforcement officer can conduct a free home security survey. The officer may recommend installing proper lighting for visibility at night, using strong locks and stronger construction materials on all doors and windows, trimming shrubs for better visibility and installing alarms and cameras to protect residences.
