What is Neighborhood Watch?
It is Citizens keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings by getting to know their neighbors and the resources available to them. It is a CRIME PREVENTION STRATEGY!
- A program involving the joint efforts of the Police Department
- And the Community
- Enhances Neighborhood Security
- Heighten the Community’s Power of Observation
We are happy to report that Greensprings' West is registered with the James City County Police Department as a Neighborhood Watch Community. Soon we should be connected with the Police Department through their e-mail system. This will allow us instant information on Crime in the area or any other important facts of which we need to be aware.
Thanks to all of you that participated this Fall by signing our consent forms giving us over the 50% requirement to establish the Program in our neighborhood. We are fortunate that so far, sixteen residents have volunteered to be Street Captains, serving as Liaisons between the Watch Coordinator and the Residents.
There have been a few incidents in our neighborhood and the police were called.
During the Holidays, several families had packaged that had been delivered by UPS, stolen off their front porches and in one incident some furniture was damaged. Other incidents involving teenagers attempting to steal alcohol from open garages could have turned into problems if not addressed by the residents.
We would like to ask all residents to keep their garage doors closed when away from their houses. Also, if you keep alcohol (beer) or any paints or chemical cleaners, etc. in your garage that could be dangerous to children, be sure they are locked up or out of reach and/or vision of teens and children.
If you are going out of town, be sure your neighbors know to watch your home and collect any delivered mail or newspapers that lay in the driveway. If at any time you see suspicious cars or people in the area please do not hesitate to call 911. Your call will be answered and routed to the correct department for reporting and action will be taken. We cannot be too careful. Now that more and more activity is going on behind our subdivision on Brick Bat Road, we are more visible.
We would love to have more Street Captain volunteers and would appreciate your call to Retta Morris, Coordinator or any of the Street Captain’s listed on the reverse side of this sheet
